The Special Committee tasked by Parliament to investigate the Adjei Kojo demolition has exonerated the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) of any wrong doing.
The decision of the committee was based on documentary proof submitted to it by the TDC after the former had called for an inquest into the matter.
Nearly a hundred structures were pulled down on January 21, 2014, which saw hundreds of residents being rendered homeless. The TDC said the residents had encroached on the property which had been earmarked for a special purpose.
The action has since drawn mixed reactions from the public and civil society organizations, who described the action as inhuman.
Parliament, following the incident, instituted the Special Committee to investigate the issue.
But Joy News' Parliamentary Correspondent, Elton Brobbey reports that the committee has directed the displaced residents to seek compensation from the Chiefs of the area, who sold the pieces of land to them.
Chairman of the Committee, David Tetteh Assuming, who presented the report of their investigations to Parliament Friday, appealed to the government to provide legal assistance to the victims to get their money back.
Members of the Select Committee on Works and Housing form the core of the Special Committee, with MP for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin and Chairman of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs being a member.
Others are former Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Enoch Teye Mensah who is also the Chairman of the Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resource, Albert Abongo as well as the ranking member on the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Benito Owusu-Bio.
