The 2nd edition of Ghana Reads, an education awareness program, has ended with Ayikai Doblo M/A Primary School and Achiaman M/A Primary School all in the Ga West Municipality being adjudged overall winners in the educational games for the Upper and Lower Primary category respectively.

Winner of the Lower Primary Category, Achiaman M/A Primary scored 57 points and was followed in 2nd place by Sarpeiman M/A Primary School who had 55 points. The third place was occupied by Saint Anthony R/C Primary School with 52 points

Ayikai Doblo M/A Primary School, winner of the Upper Primary Category had 61 points and was followed by Blessed Queens and Kings Academy who had 51 points. Samsam Odumase M/A Primary School came third for scoring 35 points

Organized by Open Learning Exchange (OLE) Ghana the education awareness program is aimed at ensuring that children on the Ghana Reads program have the opportunity to practise the literacy skills they have acquired.

The Ghana Reads program itself, funded by the All Children Reading Partners namely USAID, AUSaid and World Vision, aims at ensuring that every child gets quality education irrespective of their status in society

In his welcome address Mr. Kofi Essien, the Director of OLE disclosed that moulding the lives of children was one of the basic reasons for establishing Open Learning Exchange as an organization and therefore charged teachers and other stakeholders in education to make the education of children a priority.

He added, “We are quick to say these children are our future, but are we really investing in their future to make it bright?

This is what one needs to ask himself as we witness how the kids exhibit their intelligence through the educational games being witnessed today. “Mr. Essien observed that children are ready and willing to learn and it is now our turn as adults to create an enabling environment to enable them enjoys learning.

Mr. Essien urged the pupils to take their lessons seriously and strive hard to be the best in everything. He said he was hopeful that as the phase 1 of the Ghana Reads Programme comes to an end this year, the Municipality with support from the head teachers and the entire community would work together with OLE to continue organizing the programme to gradually test the improvement made by the children.

Mr Daniel Budu Asiedu, the Ga West Municipal Director of Education applauded the strides made by OLE Ghana in the improvement of education the Ga West municipality and pledged his outfit support for OLE to achieve its objective
