But for the timely intervention of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akim South, Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, a 27-year-old pregnant woman would have delivered by the road side while walking to the hospital.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom, who was on his way to a political programme at Morso had to suspend his journey when he spotted the distressed woman in labour at Aboaboso and rushed her to the Juaso District Hospital where she delivered five minutes on arrival.
The DCE further waited until the woman was delivered of her baby before leaving the hospital’s premises.
The woman, Victoria Asibi, a native of Bawku in the Upper East Region delivered a baby boy.
She told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on her hospital bed after delivery that around 1500 hours on Monday she felt uneasy and decided to walk to the hospital together with her sister since she suspected she was in labour and there was no vehicle.
She said while on their way she felt the baby coming with its head already out, making it difficult for her to move further thereby forcing her to sit on the ground.
Asibi said moments later, they saw the DCE’s car approaching and that he did not hesitate to rush her to the hospital after they stopped him.
She was full of praise for the DCE for coming to her aid that moment and thanked him for his kind gesture.
Asibi said she migrated to live with her sister at Aboaboso about three months ago in the heat of the Bawku conflict.
Mrs Agnes Buaben, a midwife at the hospital told the GNA that the woman and her baby were both in good condition.Source: GNA
