The Police have broken up a demonstration by a group of youth at the residence of the campaign chairman of the NPP, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey.The group, calling itself, the Ga Youth for the Advancement of Justice and Democracy, said it was protesting against Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey’s attempt to purchase a government property in which he currently lives. It said the attempt by the former Tourism Minister to buy the property which is meant for government officials was improper.Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey applied to the Land Title Registry to buy the property following newspaper reports that he had been living there months after leaving government.Following that application, the Committee for Joint Action wrote to the Registry opposing the sale of the property to him.The leader of the Ga Youth for the Advancement of Justice and Democracy, Herbert Nii Akai Nartey, told Joy News if the government has no use for the property it should be returned to the Ga people.“We are calling on government to do the right thing as a principle,” he noted. He questioned the reasonableness of selling government residences to former ministers when new governments will be required to provide accommodation to its officials. The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, James Oppong, said the demonstration was broken up because they had not been notified by the protesters.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
