Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is to embark on a nationwide campaign to rid squatters and structures developed on its lands. The Managing Director of the company, Jude Adu-Amankwa, who disclosed this at ECG’s sixth national best employee award ceremony in Accra last week, said his outfit would not hesitate to prosecute all such encroachers in its territory.“In as much as such structures pose threat to our installations, the hazards to human beings living or selling within the precints of the installations are very real,” Mr. Adu-Amankwa noted. The nation-wide campaign takes-off next year. The Managing Director said ECG is changing the way it does business due to the financial support it has received from the government in recent times. The government has provided a credit facility of $95 million to ECG this year. It has also guaranteed some credits from French and Norwegians: $85 million and $55 million respectively.“All these amounts are going to be ploughed into the system to ensure supply availability and reliability to customers,” Mr. Adu-Amankwa assured. He said ECG shall be on standby to respond to any fault that may occur in its system during the presidential run-off, adding that, Ghanaians should not hesitate to draw ECG’s attention to any fault that may escape it.The Energy Minister, Felix Owusu-Adjapong, who was also present at the award ceremony, said continuous efforts were being made to seek more multilateral and bilateral partners to meet the investment requirements in the distribution sector over the next five years. The minister lauded the workers of the company for a good work done but charged the management to flush out miscreants to stop them from giving ECG a bad image.
