The Effutu Municipal Assembly has given occupants of eight government’s low cost houses in Winneba mid March this month to vacate.
The occupants are officers, who have either retired or been transferred from the municipality since the past five years and were still occupying the houses.
The directive said the move was to enable new officers who have been transferred to the area to occupy them.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Winneba on Monday, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Mathew Quayson said the period given to occupants to vacate had expired, hence the directive.
He said information reaching the Assembly indicates that occupants have decided to purchase the houses following the previous government’s decision to sell the low cost housing units to occupants.
Mr Quayson explained further that the houses were given to the occupants by the Assembly as duty post residential accommodations and therefore anybody on transfer or retirement must give it back the Assembly.
He said if those, who occupied the houses, first bought them those currently occupying would not have been able to get them.
