Members of Parliament (MPs) on Wednesday expressed concerns over recent reports of children found dead in abandoned vehicles and urged parents and communities to be alert for people behind these deaths. They said parental irresponsibility where children were left to wander on their own should also be checked. The MPs were contributing to a statement on the mysterious deaths of these male children aged between two and four in old abandoned vehicles made on the floor of the House by Mrs Elizabeth Agyemang, NPP MP for Oforikrom. Mrs Agyemang said within a month three separate incidences had been recorded among these children raising security concerns. She said the watch dog role of communities must be encouraged and parents must be vigilant as well. Mr Isaac Asiamah, NPP MP for Atwima Mponua, said it was possible that people were behind these deaths for ritual, political or other purposes just for power and cited the serial murders of women in the past. The MPs also contributed to a separate statement to mark the International Women’s Day, celebrated every March 8, and called on women to be assertive to protect their rights and for men to join women to fight against any form of violence against women. Mrs Elizabeth Amoah-Tetteh, NDC MP for Twifu-Atti Morkwaa, who made the statement appealed to her colleagues to join in the establishment of committees at the districts and regions to effectively implement the Domestic Violence Act to protect the rights of women. Mr Richard Akuoko Adiyia, NPP MP for Ahafo Ano North, who also made a statement later, said he would support a legislation to ban the use of mobile phone while driving to cut down on road accidents.
