Zenith Bank Ghana Limited is to assist junior golfers to enable them to develop their talents.
For a start, the bank would sponsor the junior team of the Achimota Golf Club to participate in the Club’s Inter-Match Play Championship against IBB Golf Club of Abuja, in Nigeria in October, this year.
Mr Andy Ojei, Managing Director of the bank announced these at the end of this year’s Inter-Match Play Golf Championship between Achimota Golf Club and IBB Golf Club of Abuja played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Sunday.
The event, which was sponsored by the bank with support from CAL Bank, Prudential Bank Limited and the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited, ended 38-23 in favour of Achimota.
Mr Ojei said the sponsorship of the events formed part of the bank’s corporate social responsibilities of providing support for the communities in which it operated.
He announced that Zenith Bank would take the full sponsorship of the competition beginning next year.
Mr Ojei called on the Ghana Golf Association to have keen interest in the training of the young golfers so that they would take up from the old ones when they retire.
Mr. Mike Aggrey, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club thanked the bank for being the major sponsor of the competition and called on other corporate bodies to help in the development of the sport.
