Government has begun construction work on a hydroelectric project on the Pra River in the Western Region.
The project which is expected to generate about 60 megawatts of power will cost 300 million dollars and will take 3 years to complete. It comprises two hydro turbines.
The construction will affect over 1600 people from 5 communities in the Wasa East District of the Western Region.
The director of power at the Energy Ministry, Steven Kwakye Doku tells Joy News those living in the communities earmarked for the project will be resettled.
He said land would be acquired at different places for the five communities and that each household would be entitled to the same type of house they live in currently.
“If you have three rooms in your house, you will get the same thing,” he concluded.
