The Sekyere Afram Plains Assembly has imposed a curfew to restrict the movement of Fulani herdsmen following incidents involving the nomads that threaten security.

No Fulani herdsman will not be allowed to travel or move in and out of the Ashanti Region district after 6 p.m.

Members voted unanimously on the issue after two Fulanis attacked a family of six, killing 43-year old Yaw Balambo, a Dagartiman at Samso on last Saturday.

The attack also left the deceased’s wife who is seven months pregnant and her four children with multiple machete wounds.

Though one suspect has been arrested, three more are at large.

In a separate incident, a timely intervention by police saved a suspected Fulani armed robber from being lynched by passengers on board a Drobonso-bound bus.

District Chief Executive, Donkor Fuseini, who also doubles as chairman of the District Security Committee (DISEC) is worried security of residents is not secured once the run-away suspects hover around the vicinity.

“With the three of the accomplices of the murder case still at large, in order to protect my citizens, it would be saver for all of us; for the Fulani herdsmen especially to stop the night activities”. Mr Donkor revealed.

The Drobonso area has in recent times become transit zone for Fulani herdsmen who are either travelling especially in the night to Nsuta area in the Sekeyere Central District or Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo region.

The dusk-to-dawn curfew means no Fulani is allowed to herd cattle at night or move in the community.

“The DISEC decided that we are putting night activities ban on the Fulani herdsmen. They are not supposed to travel into or outside the district after 6 pm.” Mr. Donkor Fuseini explained.

He warns those who flout the order will be dealt with according to the law.

Mr. Donkor tells Nhyira FM the assembly is empowering residents to make citizens’ arrest to support police in the area to ensure strict compliance.

Meanwhile, the assembly has appealed to adjoining districts to help enforce the ban on movement of Fulanis in the district.
