Melcom Care Foundation, the charity arm of the Melcom Group of companies in partnership with Devio Arts Centre and International Arts Foundation has honoured five talented kids who emerged as winners in the 5th Arts Olympiad Competition.

The competition took place inside the Melcom Plus building in Accra yesterday at the North Industrial Area.

Out of 65 selected kids drawn from different backgrounds and institutions who participated in the competition, five of them were selected and honoured accordingly.

Each of the five winners received a football as a reward for exhibiting their talent through creative arts. In addition, the winner took home a GHC100 shopping voucher, with the remaining four receiving GHC50 worth of shopping vouchers each.  

The finalist will represent Ghana during the 2015 International Arts Foundation Competition scheduled to take place in July, 2015 at Washington D.C. in the United States of America.

The winners are: Issac Kofi Elizer, (overall winner); Maud Nyarko (1^st runner up); Morisson Nyarko (2^nd runner-up); Kwabie Quansah (4^th position); and Levron James (5^th position).

Issac Kofi Elizer, 14, pupil of the Our heritage Academy in Accra who was adjudged the overall winner at the end of the competition says parents must play more roles in bringing out the best in their wards.

He encouraged his colleague’s to work hard on their God-given talents so they can be developed, tapped and used for the resourceful purposes.

“I will like to encourage other children to improve upon their talents because it is never easy to be blessed with talents like drawing, dancing, singing and others.

“If God has given you a gift like this, then you have to thank him and appreciate him for whatever he has done for you.”

“Secondly I will like to tell parents to impart more knowledge into their children to get their mind on positive aspect of things so that whenever they grow up they will be able to improve more on it” says Kofi.

Ms Lily Kudzro, the founder of Devio Arts Centre and a Co-organizer of the 5th Arts Olympiad Competition says the competition is aimed at unearthing creative talents within the children and to help them express it themselves through creative arts.

“It is also intended to educate children on the causes and the dangers of obesity through combination of creative arts and sports education which her outfit is using to make a difference in the lives of children,” she hinted.

The drawing art programme is on the theme “my favourite sports”.
