A 60-year-old man, Mr Adongo Atanga was allegedly murdered on April 11th by some residents of Konkua, a community in the Bongo District in the Upper East Region.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Six people who were arrested and arraigned before the Bolgatanga Circuit Court on April 13th have been remanded in policy custody to reappear on April 29.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), George Tetteh Zuta, District Police Commander, said they had the hint that some members of the community had murdered the deceased alleged to have been a wizard.
He said the police managed to retrieve the corpse and arrested six people alleged to have been involved in the murder.
He said authorities of the Bolgatanga Hospital asked the police to get a pathologist from the Tamale Regional Hospital to conduct the autopsy as there was none in the region.
ASP Zuta warned the communities under Bongo to desist from committing crimes, especially murder, and that the police would not hesitate to deal drastically with people involved in it.
He said investigations were ongoing to establish the facts.
