The government on Thursday expressed worry about recent reports of attacks on journalists and asked the police to investigate.
It said the police should regard these attacks “as criminal acts which infringe on the fundamental human rights of journalists and their right to practice in freedom”.
A statement signed by Mrs. Sabah Zita Okaikoi, Minister of Information, said government would not countenance any show of impunity and disregard for civil liberties, no matter who the perpetrators may be.
Some journalists who were covering a tour of flood-prone areas in Accra on Wednesday said they were assaulted by security men in former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s house and their cell phones and cameras destroyed.
