There was massive turnout at the 13th edition of the Joy FM May Day Blood Donation Exercise which was held at the Aviation Social Centre.
In all, 415 pints of blood was donated after nine hours of the well organized exercise which left enthusiastic donors proud of helping in a worthy cause.
The exercise was organised in conjunction with the National Blood Transfusion Service and the 37 Military Hospital.
Samuel Nunoo, Deputy Chief Organiser of the National Blood Transfusion Service told Myjoyonline he is overwhelmed by the interest shown in the exercise.
He said 45 people were however advised against donating blood partly because of their low haemoglobin levels or infection of the Hepatitis B virus.
Prospective donors must have blood equivalent of at least seven beer bottles to qualify. They must also weigh more than 50kg and must be between the ages of 17-60.
Samuel Nunoo said the pints donated will further be screened for Hepatitis C, Syphilis, HIV AIDS and other blood-related diseases.
Most of the donors who spoke to Myjoyonline said they were touched to donate the blood because of the appeal made by the organizers and their desire to help save lives.
