Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, has urged the members of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) to expose uncertified people working as electrical technicians.
He cautioned that the professional indiscretions of these “rogue electricians” could result in fires with possible loss of lives and destruction of property.
Mr Amenowode said this when he interacted with members of the GECA Volta Regional Branch after receiving from the association a petition calling for the stoppage of the en bloc award of building contracts to companies who sublet electrical works to unlicensed persons.
The Regional Minister also tasked the electrical technicians to look within their ranks and to expose quacks among them, especially those who use poor quality fittings for their jobs in the name of cost cutting.
The Regional Minister promised to find out the reasons why the electrical components of contracts were separated from those contracts and see how their complaints could be addressed.
Mr Michael Huzey, Secretary of the Association, who read the petition, claimed that the practice, which had gone on for the past eight years, had rendered some members of the association jobless.
