The media have been advised to adhere to the tenets of good advertising practices to save unsuspecting listeners and readers from fraudsters.
The Executive Director of the Advertising Association of Ghana, Francis Dadzie, is disgusted with the quality of adverts aired on the various media outlets.
His admonition comes after an Accra High Court judge charged the Inspector General of Police, Elizabeth Mills Robertson to clamp down on illegal adverts which tend to misinform and in some cases lead to fraud.
The court on Friday, remanded a fetish priest, Nana Azumbi, for allegedly defrauding over 17 people. He claimed he could charm and multiply money for them.
In an interview with Joy News, the Advertising Association boss, said media outlets must scrutinize and cross-check the claims by advertisers before they put them on their various networks.
Francis Dadzie said the media must be held liable for any wrong doing since the “people out there are gullible.”
Meanwhile, Mr. McBen Adu Asamoah, Head of Marketing at Asempa FM has dismissed claims that his network was used in perpetrating Azumbi's activities. He said even though Azumbi caused to be aired some advertisements on the radio station, they did not contain claims that he could double money.
