Interior Minister, Mark Owen Woyongo is warning Ghanaians that the country could be attacked by terrorists at any time.

Every country in the sub region, including Ghana, is a target of these terrorists' activities and we are all vulnerable, Mr. Woyongo told Beatrice Adu Wednesday on Joy Midday News.

Boko Haram terrorists have killed thousands in their operations in Nigeria and the government has been criticized for doing little to address the situation.

There are fears Ghana could be a target as the country chairs the ECOWAS bloc and its President John Mahama has been courting international support to fight the Boko Haram menace.

“The threat of terrorist attack is real and we are all vulnerable…so we all need to gird our loins and prepare for the bad day. We need to train our security agencies and equip them,” the Interior Minister said.

However, Mark Woyongo said Ghana is preparing adequately to deal with Boko Haram.

With the benefit of hindsight, owing to the incessant deadly attacks by Boko Haram in Nigeria, the Minister said Ghana has been engaged in training its military in counter terrorism.

He said it is in preparation of nipping terrorism in the bud that is why ECOWAS security chiefs regularly meet to share information and adopt strategies to confront the activities of terrorists.

“The issue of terrorism has to be confronted holistically…Ghana is training its military, it's training its police, it's training its security agencies. We are engaged in counter terrorism training or exercises with the military and we are hoping that very soon this would be extended to other security agencies in the country.”

Mr. Woyongo said it is very important to strengthen information sharing within Ghana and with its neighbours.

Meanwhile, a security analyst Prosper Nii Addo has cautioned Ghana to strengthen its intelligence at the borders if it wants to foil attacks from terrorist group, Boko Haram.

His comment comes as President Mahama calls for a regional force to deal with the terrorists currently operating in North-Eastern Nigeria.

Speaking in Germany, Mr. Mahama said the AU is considering a better option to deal with the menace.

In a related development, the Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana is calling on African leaders to fight Boko Haram without dependence on western countries.
