A survivor of the Kintampo highway accident has revealed a chilling account of the fatal accident that claimed the lives of at least 30 people Monday morning.
The pregnant woman [name unknown] narrated to JoyNews’ Erastus Asare Donkor that motorists using the road at the time of the incident failed to respond to their cries for help. They rather sped past.
According to her, while the trapped victims screamed from the burning vehicles, she and other survivors made it to the side of the road to get help.
But it was a fruitless venture as the drivers of these vehicles failed to stop, dampening their hopes of getting a saviour.
She explained that she lost her twelve-year-old ward to the accident.
Recounting the incident, the lady who was travelling on the Yutong bus said the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
According to her, when the bus veered off its lane into the other, the driver of the approaching Sprinter vehicle tried to avoid the collision by heading for the bush.
However, the Sprinter, unfortunately, collided with the bus, leading to the accident.
The lady said she and the others were able to escape when a young lady broke a window, giving them the opportunity to escape.
Many of those who made it out sustained various degrees of burns and were later rushed to the Kintampo General Hospital for treatment.
JoyNews’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports that almost all the survivors have been treated and discharged.
