Former president, John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to actively participate in the upcoming voters’ registration exercise.
During a community engagement at the Tongor area of South Dayi in the Volta Region, Mr Mahama said it is important for people to get registered in order to intensify the democratic process of the country.
The leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress also indicated that although his party is not in favour of the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new register, they will not undermine the democracy Ghana should the Supreme Court not rule in their favour.
“Know that whatever the verdict is, there is going to be either limited or mass registration exercise. Whichever registration it is, I will plead with Torgbe to ask all our people to come out and register so that in December they can vote,” he said.
The NDC flagbearer further pledged to be a government of action should he be voted into office, unlike his opponents who make numerous promises but fulfill very little.
“We all know that the NDC we do not talk, but our actions speak for us and so all of us must register so that on December 7, we can bring NDC back into power.”
Mr Mahama said this on Saturday when he visited the families of persons who lost relations in a boat disaster on the Volta River and commiserate with victims of a rainstorm that destroyed homes and other properties at Dzemeni.
Accompanied by the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, they presented a number of relief items to the victims and life jackets to the boat owners association.
