Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) says they have sanctioned Cocoa Produce Buying Companies (PBCs) found culpable in adjusting their scales.
Fiifi Boafo said this is part of measures to check the exploitation of farmers in the industry.
He told Kojo Yankson on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Monday that, the documentary took too long to air stressing the Board has been proactive by making the companies fingered to pay fines to the affected farmers.
"We will multiply the kilos that were adjusted by the quantity that was bought and that money will be taken from that licence buying company.
"These monies will be paid back to all the Cocoa Farmers who sold their Cocoa to that agent or that station," he said.
His comments come after JoyNews' Kwettey Nartey in his latest investigate documentary 'Missing Kilos' exposed the stealing of cocoa beans by clerks of licensed cocoa buying companies in the country.
The documentary which was produced in 2018 delayed in showing because the PBCs placing an injunction on it.
Arguing that it will spoil their businesses, they asked the court to bar JoyNews from airing the documentary.
The documentary throws light on some challenges cocoa producers face in the country which includes the adjustment of scales by the PBCs.
Mr Boafo admitted this has been one of the challenges the industry, however, he said measures have been put in place to control it.
"We've gone past the stage where we talk about the problems in the industry with regards to purchasing clerks cheating cocoa farmers.
"There have been some steps taken within the last two years to ensure that we nip this bud practice in the bud and then we are able to move forward, he said.
He further added that electronic scales will soon be introduced as weighing scales to prevent these PBCs from any further adjustments.
