An Agric extension agent’s drive to extend his services to seed production has brought relief to farmers in the Bono East Region.
In the past, farmers’ access to improve – high yielding and disease resistant seeds to drive towards increased agricultural production to achieve national food security was a challenge but Lawrence Efa’s intervention is yielding result.
Efa is helping farmers to improve production and also providing employment to the youth.
For the past fifteen years, Mr. Efa has been producing improved seeds for farmers in the Kintampo North Municipality.

With over 150 acres of nursery, the extension agent has reduced one of the complex burdens of farmers.
In 2019, Mr. Efa supplied over two thousands mini bags of improved seeds to farmers across the region.
It was facilitated by government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs program.
Mr Efa’s job places him in a position to better understand the needs of farmers and give them technical support.

He also creates jobs for young men and women Nante Community.
It was almost sunset at the time of the visit to his when Mr. and his workers had left.
Mr Efa says he is making 100 per cent profit from the business, which motivates him to expand his farm.
Last year, he made, at least, 100 thousand cedis.
Mr Efa’s initiative came with some challenges in the past until the advent of Planting for Food and Jobs.
The future of his project in the event government’s subsidy ends continues to occupy his mind.
