Government says it has achieved 90% of the promises made in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s 2016 manifesto at the local government level.
This, according to the Local Government Minister, Alima Mahama is because the Akufo-Addo led administration is determined to firm up the operations of the District Assemblies.
Taking her turn at the 'Meet the Press' series organised by the Information Ministry, she disputed claims that the government has woefully failed at the local level.
She indicated that government is still on course to deliver its last promise to the people so it can achieve a 100 per cent performance rate.
“I don’t know where people are getting their information from when they say the local government did not implement the manifesto.
"All the activities put in the manifesto and even in areas that had bearing on the Ministry of Local Governance, for example, civil and vital registration of residence, you will see it on a different section but it is a key function of local government because we are working on births and deaths registration.
"So that statement that local government has not met its responsibility under the manifesto is wrong and we have evidence that we have done that. I will put us at 90%,” she said.
The Gambaga/Nalerigu MP also added that releases to the various assemblies from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) have sharply increased from ¢461 million in 2016 to ¢967 million in 2019 by the government.
“From the common fund in 2016, ¢461million was transferred, 2017 ¢663million, 2018, ¢698 million and 2019, ¢967million.
"So you can see that we keep increasing the amount sents to District Assemblies.
"This shows that we are performing and we are assuring the District Assemblies that they will get the resources to do whatever they want to do. They will decide on what to do.
She also added that the government has also completed 23 projects left by the previous NDC administration and 4 of the 72 projects started by the NPP have also been completed.
