Assistant Director of Prison (ADP) at the Kumasi Prisons, Christiana Asiedu says “one person's hand can't cover God's eye."
ADP Aseidu was speaking to JoyNews at the commissioning of washrooms for the Kumasi Central Female Prison.
During the commissioning of the facility, Christiana Asiedu revealed the challenges faced by the State's prisons and pleaded with philanthropists to come to the Prison’s aid.
ADP Aseidu indicated that for several years, about 124 prison officers had to endure the stench of using a single washroom at the risk of serious health implications.
She was thankful to the Jackson College of Education (JCE) for providing them with the newly constructed place of convenience that would help improve the hygiene conditions for both female inmates and officers.
According to her, the help of institutions like JCE and others is needed to augment the government's efforts, as the support received from the state alone was insufficient to address all the needs of the prison.
And since "one person's hand" (representative of government's efforts), cannot cover God's eyes (in reference to the needs of the prison), they need the help and support of more benevolent people such as JCE.
The facility built by Jackson College of Education is the second of such gestures by the institution, as it built a similar facility for the male section of the prison some few years ago.
The Principal of Jackson College of Education, Mrs Theodosia Jackson who facilitated the construction of the washrooms says the gesture would translate into proper care for the inmates.
Mrs Jackson called on benevolent organisations to support prisons to help improve their living and working conditions.
Assistant Director of Prison (ADP) Christiana Asiedu commended Jackson College for their unrelenting support throughout the years.
