Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah

Joy Sports is reliably informed that Nana Yaw Amponsah is considering resigning from his role as Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer, just a month after his appointment.

Nana Yaw Amponsah, whose unveiling took place a month ago amid funfair, is not happy with some board members' interference in his work and wants to step down.

According to a close source to the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant, Amponsah is frustrated, and doubts he can achieve his targets for the club should he continue as the CEO and the trend does not change.

This comes as a huge surprise, considering the 12-member Board of Directors had assured Nana Yaw Amponsah, in the presence of club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, that he will be given the free hands to run the club.

And just a month, they are doing the complete opposite. The source said the Board is duplicating the work of Amponsah, with more than 10 board meetings since he was appointed on August 7, 2020.

Management committees have been instituted by the board and are working without the approval of Amponsah.

Also, some Board Members have been granting interviews about what they intend to do in their personal capacities for the club, and are outdoing each other to keep the spotlight individually.

The source confirmed the reported boardroom bust-up between Nana Yaw Amponsah and Dr Kofi Abban. This was as a result of the Board Member promising to establish Kotoko TV, without consultation with CEO and other board members.

The renovation of the Adako Jachie training complex has not started due to disagreement between the CEO and the board. According to the source, Amponsah had negotiated a good deal with the engineers but the board went to engage the engineers on a different plan.

Also, the club have not been able to sign any of their transfer targets such as Justice Blay and Matthew Cudjoe because the CEO and the board are not on the page. While Amponsah has demanded money to execute the signings, the board are negotiating the transfers themselves.

According to the source, Kotoko’s decision to agree to represent Ghana in the Caf Champions League next season was influenced by a radio pundit, something which has got Nana Yaw Amponsah really angry.

Not only Nana Yaw Amponsah is not happy and wants to resign, Board Chairman, Dr Kwame Kyei and his Vice Jude Arthur are also considering stepping down as they have been sidelined, with “rich Accra caucus” running the affairs of the club.

The source claimed that Board members without deep pockets have been sidelined, despite their rich knowledge of the game while “the money men” make all the decisions.
