Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, has urged recently graduated students of the Institute to venture into creating their own jobs.
Rev. Prof. Anthony Afful Broni said the mentality that government should be the only one employing graduates should be nipped in the bud.
"Do not attempt or copy from anybody. Dare to create your own jobs even if it is small.
"You don't have to necessarily allow yourselves to be employed by government. Put into use what you have learnt and create your own jobs," he said.
He was speaking at a virtual graduation ceremony of the 2019/2020 year group where he urged the students to apply knowledge gained from their education to create their own jobs.
"You may begin in small and humble ways, at least from the start, but we know how things will flourish from small beginnings to much greater heights," he said.
The University of Education, Winneba, is among institutions that did not allow the Covid-19 pandemic to hamper their effective operations.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the institution employed other means, including the virtual learning program, to ensure that students continued with academic work while at home.
He noted that both students and lecturers highly patronised the program and this contributed largely to effective academic work while schools remained closed as part of measures to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rev. Prof. Afful also added that the University has demonstrated its ability to survive during the Covid-19 pandemic by continuing to provide academic and professional services.
