Former Asante Kotoko attacker Francis Akwaffo Boateng has urged the club’s supporters and all other stakeholders to trust the competence of Chief Executive Nana Yaw Amponsah to succeed.
The former Porcupines forward believes his appointment is a sign of good things to come for the club but it can only happen if he is given the needed time and patience for his project in the next three years.
Nana Yaw Amponsah who recently named his 8-member management team to steer the affairs of the club is hopeful of achieving greater heights with the Kumasi-based outfit.
Akwaffo who enjoyed his time at Reds calls for enough support and calm to enable the former Phar Rangers chief to be successful.
“I have worked with Nana Yaw Amponsah and I was the first Kotoko player he managed. I know what he is capable of so I ask every supporter of the club to be patient for him. We must all support him and I do believe he will make Kotoko great,” he told Nhyira Power Sports.
Nana Yaw Amponsah who is very particular with youth development has promised to build a vibrant youth side for the club which can generate revenue from players sales and also have quality players feed into the senior team.
Akwaffo, who rose through the ranks of the Porcupine Warriors youth team to become a first-team regular, wants greater attention given to the youth team under this new leadership headed by Nana Yaw Amponsah.
“I am impressed they have interest in the youth team. This is where myself and others like Osei Kwame, Nii Baah, William Thompson, Prince Anokye developed into the main team under Herbert Mensah and it was continued by Nana Bantamahene (Sylvester Asare Owusu) during his tenure.
What we give the seniors must be seen also at the junior level. Giving them three jerseys when the senior team has five jerseys will be enough to make them feel they are part of the team."
Kotoko benefited a lot from my time with a couple of others as they did not spend in recruiting quality into the team because we were ready to play at senior level from the youth team,” Akwaffo concluded.
Nana Yaw Amponsah has, however, stated his focus on youth development by setting up the Kotoko Academy during his unveiling ceremony as CEO back in August.
“Much attention will be given to youth development to create and develop players for the club,” he said.
Kotoko expects an ultra-modern training complex which will set the tone for youth football development at the club.
He has revealed that construction works at the Adako Jachie training complex will be completed within the next three months as major refurbishment ahead of the upcoming season began last week.
