Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Faith Ministry, has disclosed that one thing that he will always appreciate about late former President Jerry John Rawlings is how he relinquished power.
Nicolas Duncan Williams said, during the 2000 elections, everyone in the country was concerned as to whether Mr Rawlings was going to hold on to power or step down for another government to take over.
"I was in the United States when a few people called [to ask]...And so I called him just to discuss with him and to find out what was going on in his mind and he said something that really touched my heart.
"He said to me that, he has done his best and he believes its time for him and his administration to leave for another to come and build this nation. And he did just that," the Archbishop said.
The Archbishop made the comments on JoyFm's Super Morning Show where he further disclosed that the news of Mr Rawlings' death came to him as a shock.
"I was with him few weeks ago during the time the mother passed, I prayed with him and his family...and I didn't sense any danger. And I think I'm still grieving in my own over the loss of this great patriarch and a man who cared for this nation.
During the interview, Archibishop Williams described the former President as a great statesman who has played an important role in the political history of the country.
"I think one thing that really warms my heart was how he relinquished power," he added.
He further urged the NDC and the general public to become united in the face of his demise.
