Outgoing MP for the Tempane Constituency has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against referring to former President John Dramani Mahama as president-elect.
Joseph Kpemka said such comments have the potential of sparking violence in the country.
He made the comments Monday on the Super Morning Show where he expressed disappointment in key NDC figures who openly declared Mr Mahama president-elect, contrary to pronouncements of the Electoral Commission.
He stated that in other jurisdictions such persons would have been arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.
"I was really really appalled when I heard very leading members of the NDC like Sammy Gyamfi on TV calling former President Mahama President-elect. I was shocked to the bone marrow."
"In any country such persons would have been picked up by security agencies," he said.
Following the NDC's defeat in the 2020 presidential elections, MP for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, asked former President John Dramani Mahama to declare himself the winner of the elections and proceed to form a parallel government.
Prior to Mr Fuseini's comments, Sammy Gyamfi during various press conferences after the December 7 polls referred Mr Mahama as president-elect.
The comments, however, have been condemned by Mr Kpemka who described them as a compromise on the country's democracy.
"This is a recipe for chaos because party supporters will actually listen and act in accordance," he added.
He further asked the NDC to either concede defeat or challenge the outcome of the elections in court.
