Hundreds of widows in the Mampong municipality have received donations in cash and products to support them in celebrating Christmas.
The items including bags of rice, GTP cloth and broilers as well as a 31-seater bus for the Mampong traditional council, were provided by CEO of Yesu Dea Transport, Yaw Amponsah, also known as Agyawiase.
The donation worth over 1,000,000 cedis is aimed at supporting the poor and needy widows during the festive season.
The beneficiaries could not hide their joy when they received the items.
Maame Akosua, a 76-year-old woman, is excited at the Christmas gifts.
“I have never seen this before. May God bless Agyawiase with good health and long life to be doing this for us every year. I always depend on my children for Christmas celebrations, but this year, even if they do not come, I can still enjoy Christmas,” she said.
“I am very excited today. Things would have been difficult for me this year. “I did not have all these items but now that I have gotten them, I am good to go. May the Lord bless the Agyawiase,” said Janet Adwubi, another beneficiary.
“When I heard of this donation, I was very happy. I was not expecting all these items,” said Abena Nsiah, a widow and a mother of seven. “May the lord bless his entire generation.”
Speaking at the forecourt of the at Asante Mampong palace, Mr. Amponsah said the donation is targeted at 2,345 widows.
“We are not only donating to widows here in Asante Mampong but have been touring one region to the other. 1,270 people will receive their items today. After here we will be moving to another place.
“I urge all widows to have faith in God, for he always knows best. Who knows, worse things might have happened if their partners were around,’’ he encouraged.
The Member of Parliament for Mampong constituency, Kwasi Ampratwum, lauded the kind gesture.
“It’s in the Bible that whoever remembers a widow with good intentions will be abundantly blessed, I will think about what I can also do to help the widows, I am so much enthused,” he said.
