Legon Cities head coach Bashir Hayford insists he is committed to working with Asamoah Gyan but cannot tell when the Black Stars legend will be fit to play under him.
Gyan, whose signing for Legon Cities earned massive media attention, locally and internationally, has been struggling for fitness.
The 34-year old has played just 74 minutes in the Ghana Premier League this season.
Since the arrival of Bashir Hayford in late November, Gyan hasn’t been available for selection, missing eight consecutive games.
“I have been telling you time again to ask him. He comes to the field so you should ask him. Even doctors can’t look you in the face and confirm that your nose hurts, you must tell them what is wrong with you,” Hayford told reporters after the 1-1 draw with Hearts of Oak when he was asked about Gyan’s injury return date.
He added: “What I know is that I want him to be fit so I can use him. I have been saying that no coach will get Asamoah Gyan and leave him on the bench, no coach in Africa.”
“So you ask him, he is here he will tell you whatever is happening. If you leave it to me I will be predicting and conjecturing which may not be true.”
Ghana’s all-time top scorer joined the Royals in November last year in bumper deal that would see the former Sunderland striker earn $1 million at the club.
His absence has been a huge blow for the Accra-based club who have struggled this season.
Legon Cities are currently 16th on the table and will face 17th placed King Faisal in their next Ghana Premier League fixture on Saturday.
