Members of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) at KNUST, have responded to the cry of a 4th-year medical student there who is to undergo major surgery.
Rita Adjoa Abodoh, the beneficiary, has been diagnosed with a malignant tumour requiring an immediate and urgent operation.
The Dean of the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry (KSMD) in the company of leaders of the Medical Students’ Association, said that Rita’s parents had informed the School of the plight of their daughter.

He also said, given the cost of the surgery, the parents appealed to the general public for financial assistance to help save the life and dreams of Rita.
Upon hearing this urgent call, GAUA, which is made up of all the Senior Administrative and Professional staff of the University, namely, Registrars, Accountants, Auditors, Doctors, Pharmacists, Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Lawyers, and other professionals, responded by raising ¢12,000 to support Rita.
The president of GAUA KNUST, Anthony Adjapong, in presenting the cheque, said when the Association received the call, members were informed and in less than a week raised the amount.
He went on to say that the Association was motivated on the grounds of compassion and common humanity of man.
For him, GAUA was not only interested in the academic life of students but also their wholistic development as well as their career aspirations.
He concluded that the donation was also a way GAUA was fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.
Receiving the donation, the Dean of the KSMDS thanked the Association for the swift response and urged other groups, associations, institutions and Ghanaians to donate to save the life of Rita so she could complete her studies and become a medical officer for the country.
