Spokesperson for former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Yaw Opoku Mensah, has challenged the Education Minister’s spokesperson to verify his facts after he allegedly claimed on Joy Prime that no textbooks were developed or provided for the implementation of Ghana’s new curriculum.
Mr Opoku Mensah described the assertion as misleading and said it could be checked against official records of the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.
He said records show that 4,363,484 core-subject textbooks were procured and distributed to Junior High Schools across the country through the respective regions and districts.
He added that 9,559,367 core textbooks were also procured and distributed to primary schools nationwide to support teaching and learning.
Mr Opoku Mensah therefore questioned how an official spokesperson of the Education Ministry could make a public claim that, according to him, contradicts records available within the Ministry and the Ghana Education Service.
“Political communication should never become a licence to rewrite facts or mislead the public,” he said.
He urged the spokesperson to adequately prepare for public engagements, verify information and consult official records before making pronouncements on matters concerning the Education Ministry.
“Ghana deserves informed public discourse, not misinformation dressed up as official information,” Mr Opoku Mensah added.
He said the relevant records should be allowed to speak for themselves, urging public officials to ensure that their statements are supported by verifiable facts.
