About 230 Residents, including four nursing mothers and their babies, have been displaced by a late night rainstorm with properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The affected communities include Frafra number one, Number Four and Number Six in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality of Savannah Region.

At the time JoyNews visited the affected communities, many of the victims had relocated.

This brought figures of the number of affected houses to twenty-five with Frafraha number six being the being severely affected as many of their roofs completely rift off.

Some of the victims who returned to work on their buildings narrated their ordeals to Joynews.

A mother of three, Amina Kpapereh who was in tears, said she lost everything.

"We closed our door and were in bed when the storm opened it. One of the children tried going out but I held him back thinking that the storm just opened the door, only to realize that the roof on top of the building wasn't there leaving us under the mercy of the rainfall.

"We later escaped to a nearby house for shelter. It was only by God's grace none of us got hurt," she explained.

Another victim, John Zaato, said "We were asleep in the night when the storm started. At first it was drizzling, all of a sudden we heard a strong sound, before we could go out to check the roof top was gone.

"So we moved to the next house with our four-month-old baby and passed the night there. We plead with government to help us fix our house," John pleaded.

Also, the Assemblyman of Canteen Electoral area, Abraham Anangpasah, says he shares the loss and pain of the victims and as such, has communicated same to officials of the National Disaster Management Authority for their intervention.

"Immediately after the rainfall, I was duly informed that some of my areas were affected. I got calls from the areas, Frafra number One, Four and Six and I took time to visit the areas to see the extent of damages, it's quite heartbreaking.

"So I immediately reported to NADMO, since they are directly in charge of that particular aspect. I know NADMO also visited Frafra number Six etc and they promise to help but this is not the first time they promised this same community.

"Last year, they did, but nothing came out of that promise. I personally lobbied the former MP for roofing sheets for the victims," he said.
