A renowned Accounting Professor, Noel Tagoe, has described as wickedness the growing spate of corruption in the country.
The university lecturer told Kojo Yankson on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Tuesday expressed disgust at the growing menace stressing that it must be nipped in the bud immediately.
According to him, the act does not only affect the public purse of the country but also affect the lives of numerous Ghanaians.
“Corruption is one of the vilest thing that can happen to a country. Once you steal money meant to build a hospital that means no hospital is going to be built that means people are going to die.
“How many Ghanaians are dying because somebody has taken $5 million kickback that should have come to the checker but goes into a private pocket? That is the extent of wickedness,” he told hosts Kojo Yankson and Winston Amoah.
He continued, “Think about the number of kids who are not being schooled properly, think of the number of people who are unemployed. It is not a good thing.”
Already, corruption has been described by many as the biggest pillar in the country’s economic growth.
According to Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the country loses close to $3 billion to graft annually.
The former Executive Director of Chartered institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) then called for a De-politicization to deal with the menace.
“We should de-politicise it and deal with everybody who is corrupt in terms of that. It doesn’t matter whether you are NPP or NDC.
“I mean, if NPP is in power and an NPP person is corrupt, that is where they have to go for the person because the person cannot talk about political prosecution, because it is your own person that is [dealing with you],” he said.
