Counsel for actress Akuapem Poloo born Rosemond Brown has disclosed he is set to file a motion to appeal the 90-day jail sentence handed his client by an Accra Circuit Court.
Andrew Vortia said the move has been hugely endorsed by the Attorney General, Godfred Dame.
The actress was convicted on Friday over naked pictures with her 7-year-old son.
This was after she pleaded guilty for sharing a nude photo on Instagram while celebrating his birthday in June last year.
Handing her judgement, Christina Cann expressed discontentment with the alarming rate with which nudity has become a thing in the country’s social media space as such, the actress is being punished to serve as a disincentive to others.
But in an interview on JoyPrime’s Beyond the Headlines Monday, Mr Vortia said the Attorney General in a phone conversation described the 90-day imprisonment as “a bit too harsh”.
“The Attorney General, Godfred Dame called me personally to express his support on behalf of government on an appeal that I intend filing this morning and the motion for bail pending appeal.
"He says I have his support. As I head out right now, I am going to the high court to file those motions immediately,” he said.
According to him, even though the law seeks to protect his client's seven-year-old son, the judgement is not in favour of the child’s interest.
“The law intends to protect the child that is why Miss Brown was taken to court, and now, she has been handed a custodial sentence so is the child worse off or better?” he asked.
The lawyer also told Joy Prime that the “high spirited” actress is yet to report to the correctional facility at Ankaful since she is to undergo a Covid-19 test.
