The Bono Regional office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has upscale measures to control fatalities on major highways in the region.
The Authority is working with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) to ensure compliance with road safety regulations among drivers, motorists and road users.
The move, according to the Bono Regional Manager of the NRSA, Mr Kwasi Agyenim Boateng was aimed at enforcing the Road Traffic Regulation LI 2180 (2012) to reduce road crashes and fatalities on the highways.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a road audit and enforcement exercise held at Subinso on the Wenchi-Bambio highway, Mr Boateng said the control of road accidents remained a shared and collective responsibility and advised drivers against over-speeding and careless driving.
According to him, fatigue driving was another cause of road accidents and urged, especially commercial drivers to have enough rest before journeying.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Kofi Oduro Amponsah, the Wenchi Divisional MTTD commander, regretted that road crashes on that, the particular highway was worrying despite police enforcement on road safety and warned careless drivers would be arrested and prosecuted.
He warned drivers against drunk driving and appealed to passengers to report careless drivers to the police for the necessary action to be taken against them.
The Bono Regional Manager of the National Insurance Commission, Mr Denis Dramani Faruk, urged drivers to authenticate their insurance covers from the commission.
