Police in the Central Region have arrested two persons suspected of having engineered the mining at Breman in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
The illegal mining left three persons dead with some unspecified number of people being sought.
Police say the two: Kwaku Appiah and Kofi Appiah are assisting them with investigations.
Meanwhile, together with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Regional Police Command has also identified two of the bodies that were retrieved from the pit.
They are 24-year-old Kwasi Yeboah and Fabatia, 13, while the third body of a female adult is yet to be identified.
The miners were trapped in a galamsey pit popularly known in the area as Breman Lockmu at the outskirts of the community.
The Upper Denkyira West NADMO Director, Isaac Gyasi, said he was surprised to learn that some people were still mining after the government’s directive.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
