The Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante has described the Highlife music genre as Ghana’s gift to the world.
Speaking at the Highlife Benefit Concert on Saturday, he stated that the genre has served as a stepping stone for many music styles and is the basis of the contemporary Highlife and Hiplife music that exist today.
"Highlife is our gift to the world," he told Joy Prime's Ibrahim Ben-Bako at the event.
“Highlife brought a different genre to world music. Everybody says the basics of highlife music can be found in that old song “Yaa Amponsa”; a simple song, simple beat but that is the wellspring of all Highlife music."
In addition, he believes that the genre gave the world many of its celebrated artistes including Osibisa, Uhuru among others.
On Saturday, June 5, the President’s Executive Secretary thrilled patrons at the Highlife Benefit Concert, a fundraising concert for the $50 million Pan-African heritage museum of Kojo Yankah.
When he took to stage, Nana Bediatuo Asante sang “Me dofo pa wo nyom na eba yi” by award-winning music legend Kojo Antwi and “Odo” by singer-songwriter KiDi.
