Residents at the Sawla District of the Savannah Region are calling on the government to as a matter of urgency, reconstruct the Gbeniyiri-Dagbebu bridge in the community to enable free movement of the people.
Following the recent heavy downpour, the bridge has been flooded, leaving scores of residents stranded at the river bank as they are unable to cross over for fear of losing their lives.
Assemblyman for Gbeniyiri-Dagbebu Electoral Area, Clement B. Nakoh, therefore, joins the appeal to the District Chief Executive (DCE) and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sawla, Andrew Chewintey to help construct the bridge and the Sawla Gbeniyiri-Dagbebu roads.
“I want to appeal to the ruling government, including the DCE and the MP to come to the aid of Gbeniyiri to help reconstruct the bridge for Dagbebu-Gbeniyiri.”
He further called for assistance from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to also support in their small ways.

On Sunday, September 12, a class 4 pupil of the St. Augustine’s R/C primary school, Elizabeth Kambotuu got drown after a boat she was aboard with other passengers, capsized when they were returning from Gbeniyiri market.
The residents were able to save everyone except the 13-year-old as her mother, Juliana Kambatuu indicated “they looked for her but they couldn’t find the girl.”
Mother of the deceased, Juliana Kambatuu told Adom News' Rebecca Natomah that her daughter's dead body was, however, found on Tuesday morning and buried.
The incident has since caused fear in many, leaving them stranded with their goods, motorcycles and vehicles at the bank of the river.
