It has emerged that the mother of four who butchered her 2-year old son to death without any provocation committed the act moments after returning from Sunday church service.
Police say 30-year old Hannah Akua Afriyie murdered her son in the presence of her three other children.
But residents of Agyarko Buoho say the suspect did not show any sign of abnormality until after she had slashed her son’s head and lower abdomen.
Hannah is currently on admission at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital after the Kodie Magistrate Court granted a request by the Kodie Police to seek psychiatric examination for her after she displaced some strange behavior during her arrest.
JoyNews has also learnt through a visit to the family house at Agyarko Buoho that the children who witnessed the murder are yet to receive any psychological care.
The petty trader inflicted machete wounds on the head and lower abdomen of her son, Maxwell Appiah-Buga. He was subsequently pronounced dead on arrival at the Old Tafo Government Hospital in Kumasi.
According to some neighbours, they least expected the suspect whom they described as a kind and calm person to commit the murder.
Residents who will not speak on record said they had seen the woman return from church service before the incident happened.
Though they will not link the incident to church, they insist the suspect whom they always see moving around the vicinity with her children may be suffering from high fever.
Meanwhile, Acting Kodie District Commander, DSP Jeremiah Alale had earlier told JoyNews the suspect acted strangely when she was arrested, a development which informed police decision to push for psychiatric assessment.
According to him, he also recommended psychological care for the children who witnessed the murder of their sibling by their mum.
