Head coach of Hasaacas Ladies, Yusif Basigi says Veronica Appiah is a doubt for their opening game in the CAF Women’s Champions League while Milot Pokuaa will not be rushed into playing.
The champions of the Ghana Women’s Premier League are currently in Egypt for the maiden edition of the Champions League following their triumph in the WAFU Zone B tournament back in August.
Ahead of their opening game, Basigi has provided an update on his squad’s preparedness for the tournament.
According to the coach, Milot Pokuaa will not be rushed to play the tournament due to an injury while Veronica Appiah is also a doubt for the opening encounter.
“Milot sustained an injury in Ivory Coast [during the WAFU Zone B Champions League]. We’ve tried to treat her since the return, hoping she will be back in time for the main competition. But after yesterday’s shake-up, the doctor advised she sits out because she is developing a swell. She needs to rest, which means she is not fully fit. She is unlikely to be in my squad,” the coach said in an interview with the team’s media.
Basigi also revealed while Milot’s absence is going to be a big blow, the team have put plans in place in an attempt to replace her.
“We started planning without Milot after her injury. There is a back up and we are trying to infuse a player into her place. Her absence is one of the reasons for the acquisition of the Burkinabe [Fatoumata Tamboura]. I think there is a backup for her.”
On Veronica Appiah, he added: “Veronica will be tested and we will see how it turns out. But we have a ‘Plan B’ for her as well.”
Hasaacas Ladies find themselves in Group A, alongside Wadi Degla, Malabo King FC and AS Mande. They play Mande in their first game of the tournament on Friday, November 5.
