After a keen contest on Monday, Chemu SHS has secured a slot at the quarter-final stage of this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
The battle among Chemu SHS, Kumasi Sec. Tech. Sch. and St. James Sem. at the Sarah Mensah auditorium in the Ashanti Region left supporters of the three schools on the verge of their seats due to the uncertainty of which school carries the day.
Chemu SHS took charge and led the pack with 18 points at the end of the first round. Then, with 12 and 10 points, Kumasi Sec Tech and St James Seminary followed.
Closing the gap in Round Two was Kumasi Sec Tech with 19 points, but Chemu SHS was still in the lead by a two-point margin. However, Ohene-Amoani and Felix Sarpong of St James Seminary managed to secure 15 points.
The story was no different in Round Three as representatives of Kumasi Sec Tech, Silas Nketiah, and Mikhail Tauhir were on the tails of Chemu SHS with 23 points. Chemu SHS showcased their dominance by scoring 4 points in the Problem of the Day, leaving its total score at 25.

The narrative in Round Four turned to favour contestants of Kumasi Sec Tech, who did what was humanly possible to lead the score table with 36 points. However, not far was Chemu SHS with 35 points.
The contest became more heated when both Chemu SHS and its closest contender secured 39 points each. The question on all minds was which school would display wit to grab the last riddle of the day and make their institution proud.

After a good start, will Chemu SHS throw in the towel, or will Kumasi Sec Tech's thirst for victory enable them to see the promised land?
The riddle was read, and Chemu SHS, as swift as the cheetah rightly answered the question to bid farewell to its contenders and happily grabbed a slot in the quarter-final stage.
With 42 points, Chemu SHS will now rock shoulders with Sonrise SHS, Bolgatanga SHS to battle for the 2021 NSMQ trophy.
