Due to the increase in enrolment in senior high school, instilling discipline among students is getting more difficult.
Following the adoption of the government's Free SHS program, several schools' facilities are also overburdened.
As a result, parents have been advised to step up their disciplinary roles in order to help schools keep their children focused on their studies.
With a student population of 3,175, St Louis Senior High school is considered a leader in academic achievement.
But with the ever-growing population, learning facilities and dormitories are overstretched.
Ama Kyerewaa is Headmistress of the school.
“This situation has overstretched our already existing facilities. They are our dormitories, science laboratories and washrooms,” she said.
Stakeholders of the institution observe this account for indiscipline in schools.
Teachers are tasked to ensure discipline, but parents also have the role of instilling good moral values in their wards.
This was stated at the launch of the school’s 70th anniversary celebration on the theme: “Maintaining Our Heritage; Transforming Our World”.
Asantehene’s representative, Amakomhene Nana Adu Mensah Asare, is Board Chairman of St Louis Senior High school.
“Parents should lead with proper upbringing of the children. The headmistress mentioned the challenges the school faces as a result of increased enrollment. It does not come with only accommodation or other facilities. It comes with discipline,” he advised.
With the impact of digitization on society, Member of Parliament for the Asokwa Constituency, Patricia Appiagyei, cautioned students against abuse.
“Admittedly, in today’s world, we cannot escape digitization. However, as parents or students, we have to ensure we do not neglect our heritage under the guise of modernization.
“Our former headmistress is advocating we fully develop the facilities in the school. This will enable us to appropriately preserve our heritage, she said.
The St. Louis anniversary celebration is slated for November 2022.
