Ahead of the Vice President's address on the state of the country's economy, his spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, has hinted at what to expect.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show, on the purpose of the address, Dr. Gideon Boako stressed that the Vice President, through this address will provide details on the state of affairs of the country and how government intends to bring the ailing economy back on its feet from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As we all are aware, we are not in normal times, and the world all over, people are experiencing new normal ways of living that seem to take us from our comfort zone and this also calls for new ideas and new measures to tackle the difficulties,” he said.
He added that, “this is more of delving into [mind boggling] issues raised by the public and also intended to bring some level of clarity and explanation to some of the questions that are on the minds of the public.”
He was certain the Vice President “will speak to reflect the mindset of the people.”
Dr. Bawumia is expected to deliver a speech on the economy at 1:00pm on Thursday. This follows various calls from the public to him to speak up after what they describe as a long silence on pertinent national issues.
According to the section of the public calling on him to speak, the once vociferous Vice President has suddenly gone mute in the wake of the economic crisis currently being experienced. But in a reaction, Dr. Boako said such comments are politically motivated.
“It’s quite surprising when people say the Vice President has been quiet. That cannot be a true statement. Vice President Bawumia has been one of the most outspoken, vociferous Vice Presidents ever produced in this country.
“Every time he gets the opportunity, he makes his views clear. So I don’t see [the point] when people say he is been quiet; it’s neither here nor there. These are [just] political jabs,” he said.
According to him, “there is no definite pattern, arrangement or order as to when the Vice President should hold a Public Lecture. The date, timing, and the platform are determined by the circumstances,” thus the Vice President will address the public when necessary.
He further assured the public that Dr. Bawumia will be “factual and honest” in the presentation.
“The Vice President, as humble, sensitive and learned as he is will definitely navigate his way during the presentation and I’m sure at the end of the day, the people of Ghana will appreciate where he is coming from and why he is speaking and dealing with issues as they are.
“He will present nothing but facts to the public “where things are better he will talk about and where things are tough he will make that known because he is known for speaking to the data. So there’s no way he will try to turn over the data. So he is going to be very factual and you’ll see the level of honesty in his speech,” he said.
Personalities including the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, are scheduled to grace the economic forum at the Pentecost Convention Centre at Millennium City, Kasoa Yesukrom in the Central Region.
The National TESCON Training and Orientation Conference is being organised by the National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in collaboration with Danquah Institute, dubbed “Bawumia Speaks on Economy” at 1:00pm.
Other speakers who will be present include; Chief of Staff, Frema Akosua Osei Opare; National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay; Executive Director, Danquah Institute, Antoinette Tseboa-Darko, among others.
