Air Côte d’Ivoire is to provide more travelling options for passengers travelling between Accra and Johannesburg with the launch of a new service between the two cities in June.
The Accra-Johannesburg flights via Abidjan follow growing economic and bilateral relations between South Africa and an increasing number of West and Central African countries. It is also the launch pad of Air Cote D’Ivoire into the long haul market from it’s base in Abidjan.
Micheline Yahot, the Country Manager of Air Cote D’Ivoire in Ghana tells AviationGhana that the start of the Johannesburg operations is in response to demand and the need to offer options to the travelling public on the route.
” So far we have reopened all the routes we operated before the pandemic. We are even about to add two more routes– Bissau and Johannesburg– at the end of this month and in June. The main aim of Air Cote D’Ivoire is to cover Central and West Africa. Launching Johannesburg is part of preparations to launch long haul routes,” she said.
She added that: “South Africa talks a lot about opportunities and the South Africa government is also signing a lot of bilateral with countries in our sub-region. So there is a business to do and a market to grab. We thought about this and decided that South Africa should be part of our long haul project. We are starting in June.”
The Accra-Johannesburg route is currently serviced mainly by South African Airways, RwandAir via its hub in Kigali, and Asky Airlines via Lomé.
