Some Residents of Anlo Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have asked government to, as a matter of urgency, fix the road from the Anlo Afiadenyigba junction to Havedzi.
The road, according to the residents, is a death trap and has already claimed lives over the years due to its deplorable nature which needs urgent attention from the government.
The residents enumerated the economic benefits of fixing the roads, which is the shortest route between the regional capital Ho and Keta, the municipal capital, as well as the other towns in the southern part of the region.
The deplorable nature of the roads is worse now to the extent that residents feel left out of the President’s promise of making sure that all deplorable roads in the country are constructed.
The Anlo Afiadenyigba-Havedzi roads when constructed will greatly improve the activities of the residents and also generate more revenue for the Keta Municipal Assembly.
The dust from the road is also affecting residents negatively especially health wise and also makes it difficult for businessmen and women, especially shop owners, to display their goods in the open.
Car owners, commercial drivers and motorbike riders, popularly called okada riders, are most affected as they spend more money on the maintenance of their vehicles and bikes to still be in business.
“We are really suffering and our cars and bikes are no more in good shape because of the bad roads,“ a resident lamented.
There are increasing concerns over the deplorable nature of some roads in the region making residents constantly complain.
The President declared 2020, 2021 and also 2022 years of roads but yet some major districts in the Volta Region are yet to get their fair share of the roads promised, a situation which has been a worry to residents in the Ketu South Municipality.
The residents, who have already begun contributing funds among themselves to fix the roads, are hoping that the President will listen to their plea and take action.
They have so far contributed an amount of GHC30,000.00 to start reshaping the roads as they await the government to do something about their plight.
