District Chief Executive for Ellembelle District, Kwasi Bonzo has assured that his outfit will work to halt any illegal mining operations in the district.
The DCE together with his personal assistant and one other person are currently under police investigation for the disappearance of two mining excavators in the Ellembelle District.
Speaking on The Pulse, Tuesday, Mr. Bonzo said he requested a Police escort for the transportation of the excavators before they went missing.
The DCE added that he has assisted the Police with enough information to enable them recover the missing excavators.
“I am not here to blame the Police, I want the excavators found. That is all we want as an assembly so that the perpetrators can be brought to book because two excavators cannot be impounded at an illegal mining site for the owners to even have impunity to come and take the excavators away.
“I am requesting that the Police should help us find those two excavators and deal with the owners of the excavators…any other illegal mining activity that will come to my notice, I will deal with it decisively as the chairman of DISEC,” he told Blessed Sogah.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has rejected claims that it took custody of some missing excavators in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
This followed reports on Friday, September 2 that two excavators which were in their custody, according to the DCE Kwasi Bonzo, are nowhere to be found.
In a statement on September 2, the Police claimed that no excavators were handed over to them by the DCE.
