Former Agriculture Minister, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has reiterated the need for the delegates of the New Patriotic Party to give him the mandate in the upcoming presidential primary to improve conditions in the agricultural sector.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto made the comments after he visited he graveyard of one of the pioneers of the Party at Logba in the Afadzato South District. He noted that during his tenure, he implemented a number of innovative policies that helped to boost agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Dr. Akoto said he saw an opportunity to take his vision for the agriculture sector to the next level. He announced his candidacy for the NPP presidential nomination, with a focus on improving and bringing more innovative ways into the agriculture sector.
According to Dr Akoto Afriyie Owusu, he believes that his experience as the Minister of Agriculture would enable him to bring real change to the sector. He noted that he has seen firsthand the challenges that farmers face, and he knows what is needed to be done to overcome them.
He talked about the need to invest in irrigation and modern farming techniques to increase yields and reduce post-harvest losses. He also spoke about the importance of value addition, and the need to support agribusinesses that could create jobs and boost economic growth.
Dr. Akoto noted that he knows that hard work is just beginning and that he has to convince the people of Ghana that he was the right person to lead the country, adding that he will show the people of Ghana that he has the expertise and the vision to transform the agriculture sector, and to create a better future for all Ghanaians.
“I have spent my entire life preparing for this moment, and I am determined to make the most of it with the support of the NPP delegates behind me, I am confident that I will succeed and ready to lead Ghana into a brighter and more prosperous future,” Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto said.
Dr Akoto also interacted with the family of the late SG Antor whom he described as a good man and best friend of his late dad.
The delegates and some of the party members who attended the meeting were impressed by the aspirant's sincerity and passion, and many of them pledged their support to him.
