Board Chairman of Medeama FC, Dr. Tony Aubynn, says the club’s determination and focus was the major factor to their victory in the just ended Ghana Premier League tournament.
According to him, following several setbacks in the past regarding the club’s performance, Medeama’s management had made it a point to repair their fault lines and aim for the very top.
“I think it was determination and focus that really did the trick. You remember at a point in time, our performance was not very consistent and we were getting worried so we called an emergency meeting.
“And guess what, I was in Church on Sunday, drove from church in my church clothes to hold that emergency meeting and then we continued to Tarkwa to sort of try and finalise our meeting from Cape Coast,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express.
He noted that the club’s performance had picked up prior to the Anas-GFA expose and the covid-19 pandemic, where in both situations Medeama was leading the league table before the tournament was truncated.
“So I think it was more about focusing on what we’re aiming at, our initial target was to win then league especially because of the history that really worked against us if you like, the various force majeure that worked against us including the Anas situation where we went to normalization and then also the Covid situation where in both situations we were leading and the leagues had to be truncated,” he said.
Coming into this tournament, Dr. Aubynn noted that the club was determined to pick up right from where they had left off and that had resulted in their decisive victory.
“So this time we thought it was an opportune time to win the league so we had prepared, we had brought in some young talented players, we had also focused a bit more on local recruitment. So some of the players around come from the Tarkwa area because it was a strategy we adopted just to manage the cost of keeping players and all that. So I think it was more about determination and focus.”
