The Ghana office of the International Justice Mission- (IJM-Ghana) has described allegations against aspects of its operations in Ghana contained in a recent BBC documentary as “incredibly concerning” and of “material inaccuracies”.
The anti-slavery charity organisation which says it has been active in Ghana since 2015 to help stop child trafficking on the Lake Volta, explains in a statement it issued on Tuesday that while it is ready to take on board any refinements for its processes, it has established that the BBC account of events cannot be accurate.
Last week the BBC the BBC published a documentary alleging that IJM rescue missions in Ghana wrongfully removed children from families.
“All decisions on whether to bring children to safety, as well as arrests and prosecutions, are made by the police and other Ghanaian authorities.”
